メチシリン耐性黄色ブドウ球菌(MRSA)は世界中の病院で重大な問題となっている。手指衛生はMRSA伝播の制御に不可欠であると認識されているが、無人の病院環境におけるMRSAのリザーバの役割についてはほとんど知られていない。2か所の実験的病院環境および2件のフィールド試験で、ドライミスト発生装置SterinisRで散布した過酸化水素蒸気によるMRSAに対する効果を評価した。SterinisRによる消毒工程の前後に、ディップスライドを用いてMRSAの検出と定量を実施した。第一の実験的病院環境では、MRSAの4流行株を5か所に接種し、1週間放置した。すべての菌株が1週間生存したが、消毒後には生存は認められなかった。第一のフィールド試験では、MRSA陽性患者の多い診療科の布張りの椅子14脚を、閉め切った部屋に1か月間放置した後に消毒を行った。14脚中4脚の布張り部分にMRSAが検出されたが、3脚は消毒直後、残りの1脚は24時間後にMRSA陰性となった。第二のフィールド試験はMRSA陽性の4人家族の自宅で実施した。MRSA陽性の場所が1か所見つかったが、SterinisRによる複数回の消毒工程後も依然として陽性であった。SterinisRは実験的病院環境および布張りの椅子のMRSAには有効であるが、重度のMRSA保菌患者の自宅では無効であることが判明した。

ドライミスト発生装置SterinisRで散布した過酸化水素蒸気の性能評価の論文である。消毒薬においてはいずれも、水準のほかに有機物に対する消毒能力の差が大きな因子である。一方で、人体に対する影響も絶えず検証する必要がある。
