Standardization of needlestick injury and evaluation of a novel virus-inhibiting protective glove

体液からの汚染を防止するためのバリアとして着用されるゴム製手術用手袋は、注射針、メスの刃先、または骨片などによる直接的な経皮損傷を介する汚染に対して、ある程度の保護作用がある。偶発的な針刺しにより中空針が伝播する血液量（これは最悪シナリオであるが）に影響する主要な実験的パラメータを明らかにするために、著者らは自動針刺し器具を考案した。エンベロープウイルスのモデルとして単純ヘルペス1型ウイルス（HSV1）を、ゼラチンを用いたin vitroモデルにおける「マーカー」として使用した。検討した実験的パラメータのうち、最も決定的な影響を有するのは、針の直径と針刺しの深度であることが明らかになったが、針刺しの速度、針刺しの角度、および手袋の伸縮性は影響が小さいことが示された。一重の手袋を着用した場合の血液伝播量は、手袋を着用しない場合と比較して52％減少したが、手袋を二重にしても中空針による針刺しに対するさらなる保護は認められなかった。ウイルス防止手術用手袋G-VIRRでは、一重または二重のラテックス製手袋システムと比較して、「標準化された」針刺し条件で伝播するHSV1量が81％減少した。

監訳者コメント：
針刺し実験マシーン（爆！）を作製し、極めて高い再現性を実現した実験系で、中空針の被害を大きくする因子について検討した、大変重要な論文である。こういった針刺しという事故を正確に再現する実験系は、実は大変に重要である。今回示された針の直径と針刺しの深度については、新しい注射針を開発することにつながると期待される。個人的には、大変好きな論文である。
