The effectiveness of existing and modified cleaning regimens in a Welsh hospital

病院清掃は現在、メディアの注目度が高い。現行の病棟清掃法の有効性について、特定の場所で14日間にわたり評価を行い、大きなばらつきがあることが明らかになった。その後、2段階で清掃法を変更したが、いずれの変更も、すすぎの段階にかかわるものであり、布製タオルを使い捨て紙タオルに置き換えた。一方の変更では現行の洗浄剤を引き続き使用し、もう一方の変更では洗浄剤に代えて第四級アンモニウム系の消毒剤を採用した。いずれの変更によっても、細菌数は有意に減少し、ばらつきが小さくなった。アデノシン三リン酸（ATP）検出法を使用した残留有機汚染の評価では、失敗率［ベンチマークの清掃値の500相対発光量（RLU）を上回る測定値］が、現行の清掃法後の86～100％から変更した清掃法後は0～14％に低下したことが示された。最大ATP値は163,870 RLUから2,289 RLUに減少した。第四級アンモニウム系の消毒剤を清掃法に導入することにより、清掃の有効性がわずかに改善したが、有意でなかった。これらの知見は、現行の清掃法の単純な改善によって、清掃法の有効性を高めることが可能であることを示唆している。

清掃法を変えることにより、環境がどの程度清浄化されるかを定量的に示した論文。自施設に適用できるかどうかは別として、環境の清浄化の評価方法は少なくとも参考になる。
