Point prevalence survey for healthcare-associated infections within Canadian adult acute-care hospitals

2002年2月にカナダ全国の病院で、医療関連感染の有病率の推定のために19歳以上の成人患者に対する調査を実施した。合計5,750例の成人の調査を行い、そのうちの601例に667件の医療関連感染を認め、医療関連感染患者の割合は10.5％、医療関連感染有病率は11.6％であった。最も頻度の高い医療関連感染は尿路感染であり、調査患者の194例（3.4％）に認められた。肺炎が175例（3.0％）、手術部位感染が146例（2.5％）、血流感染が93例（1.6％）、Clostridium difficile関連下痢症が59例（1％）に認められた。カナダにおける今回の初の全国的点有病率調査により、医療関連感染有病率は他の先進国の報告と同等であることが明らかになった。

監訳者コメント：
ある1日間に限定してポイント調査を実施することにより入院患者の医療関連感染発生率を現実的に把握しようとするユニークな試みである。純粋に発生率のみを対象にするのであれば有用な手法であり、わが国においても同様のアプローチを検討すべきかもしれない。
