香港のある病院では、重症急性呼吸器症候群（SARS）危機を受けて陰圧の手術室を建設した。この手術室は現在、空気感染の疑い症例または確定症例の治療に使用されており、SARSの再来、鳥インフルエンザの集団発生、または他の呼吸器疾患の流行に備えて建設された。本論文では、標準的な陽圧手術室から陰圧環境への物理的変換、直面した問題、気流の設計、および気流性能の評価について述べる。通常の運用を開始して以来、ルーチンの測定および観察により、気流性能は満足できるものであることが示された。これについては定期的なエアサンプリング点検によっても確認されている。コンピュータモデリング技術による計算流体力学を使用して、陽圧から陰圧へ設定を変更する前後の室内空気の分布を比較した。そのシミュレーションの結果は、陰圧手術室の物理的環境および細菌の分散パターンは、より優れているとは言えないまでも、元の陽圧の設定と同等に良好であることを示している。
