Lowbury Lecture 2005: infection control from a global perspective

世界中の医療現場が医療関連感染の問題に直面している。感染率は国ごとに、および同一国内でも、医療資源、介護職員および医療従事者の関心、患者の社会経済的状態によって様々である。最近の研究発表によると、医療関連感染の10～70％は予防可能である。手指衛生、手袋およびガウンの着用、およびバリアナーシングに関するガイドラインの遵守不履行が問題であり、不必要な感染制御対策には費用がかかる。感染制御関連の国の法律や地域、国、および世界の基準やガイドラインは、直接関係のない国々に対しても影響力をもつ。これらは感染リスクの評価に基づくべきであり、不必要にコストを増加させてはならない。感染制御の専門家の教育の継続には、国際感染管理協会（International Federation of Infection Control；IFIC）と国レベルの感染制御関連学会が重要な役割を担っている。
