医学生には針刺し受傷による感染成立のリスクがあるが、医療研修中のどの時点で針刺し受傷が最も起こりやすいのかは不明である。本研究の目的は、医療研修の課程における高リスク期間を特定することとした。ミュンヘンの医学校2校において、研修1年目、3年目、4年目、および5年目の医学生を対象に横断研究を実施した。全体で1,317名（85％）の学生が人口統計学的データ、B型肝炎ワクチン接種状況、針刺し受傷の経験率、受傷後の曝露後予防策に関する知識レベル、および伝播リスクに関する質問票に回答した。針刺し受傷の経験率は23％であり、1年目の学生の12％から4年目の学生の41％となっていた。針刺し受傷はインターンシップ期間中に、特に一般的に研修3年目に始まる採血処置の際に最も頻発した。回答者のB型肝炎ワクチン未接種率にも、1年目（21％）と4年目（6.6％）の学生で差があった。針刺し受傷は医療研修中に頻繁かつ早期に発生する。予防可能な感染リスクを減少させるためには、医療研修早期にB型肝炎ワクチン接種を徹底すべきである。

監訳者コメント：
ドイツにおける感染対策の実情をかいま見ることができる論文である。医学生の実習においても針刺し受傷による血液・体液曝露の危険性があり、当然ながらB型肝炎ワクチンの接種は必須である。それにしても針刺し受傷経験率の高さに改めて驚かされる。
