Effectiveness of automated ultraviolet-C light for decontamination of textiles inoculated with Enterococcus faecium

医療用繊維は、病院感染伝播の媒介物としての認識が高まっている。本研究では、短波長紫外線（UVC）による自動室内消毒装置（Tru-D Smart UV-C）が臨床環境で、エンテロコッカス・フェシウム（Enterococcus faecium）を接種した繊維のコンタミネーションを除去する性能を検査した。汚染されたポリコットン（ポリエステル 50％／綿 50％）の見本を病室の所定の位置に配布し、UVC に曝露した。UVC によるコンタミネーション除去により E. faecium 数は減少し、平均 log₁₀ 減少数は 1.37 であった（すべてP ＝ 0.005、Wilcoxon 符号付順位和検定）。UVC による汚染除去は、病室の医療用繊維の清浄度を維持するために、従来の洗浄に対して実行可能な付加的手段となる可能性がある。

監訳者コメント：
医療環境で使用されている繊維用品、例えばカーテンは汚染されやすいことが指摘されている。さらに繊維上に付着した細菌は長期に生存することが可能である。最も難しい点は、これらの繊維用品は莫大であり、洗濯、洗浄を適宜行うのは非常に難しいことである。今回の検討での UVC による菌減少効果は、残念ながらそれほど大きなものではなかったが、照射量や時間を含む様々な条件検討がなされ、成績の向上が期待できるかどうか、今後の進展に注目したい。
